Recently, the stable version of Nothing OS 3.0 based on Android 15, was rolled out for the Nothing Phone (2) and Phone (2a). While the update includes various new features and enhancements, users have pointed out several missing features that were expected in this version. Here’s a detailed look at what’s missing and what users are asking for.

Expected Features Missing from the Update

  1. Countdown Widget
    • The stable update was supposed to include a Countdown Widget with a progress bar and event options like naming the event, setting dates, and choosing shapes. However, this feature is absent in the current update. It will be released at the end of this month.
  1. Shared Widgets Expansion
    • While the update allows sharing photos via widgets, additional widgets like Screen Time sharing and a Pedometer widget were expected but have not been added yet.
  2. Weather App Animations
    • The update was anticipated to bring animations to the Weather App, similar to the dot animations seen in fingerprint unlocking. Unfortunately, these enhancements are still missing.
  3. Gallery App AI Features
    • A highly awaited feature set for the Nothing Gallery App was AI integration, including:
      • AI Image Generation
      • Image Upscaling
      • Super Resolution
      • AI Image Categorisation
      • AI Image Segmentation (to highlight objects in photos).
Despite being promised earlier, these features are not included in the stable update.
  4. New Wallpapers
    • No new exclusive wallpapers have been added with the update. Users had hoped for unique wallpapers tailored for the Nothing Phone series, but only older wallpapers from previous models are available.

Other Missing Enhancements

  1. Haptics for Brightness and Volume Sliders
    • The brightness and volume sliders lack haptic feedback, which many users expected for a more interactive experience.
  2. Camera App Improvements
    • The Camera app did not receive any significant updates. Features like Natural Mode and Vivid Mode, already present in the CMF Phone (1), are still missing from Nothing Phone (2) and Phone (2a).
  3. Pitch-Black Dark Mode
    • Users have requested a true pitch-black dark mode for settings and the notification panel. The current implementation still shows a greyish background in some areas, disappointing those looking for a fully dark interface.
  4. Glyph Interface Updates
    • The Glyph Interface remains unchanged, despite earlier hints of new integrations with contacts and ringtones.

What’s Next?

Nothing fans are hopeful that these missing features and improvements will be addressed in future updates. The Nothing Gallery App, in particular, is expected to see further development with the addition of promised AI features. Users are also looking forward to enhanced customisation options and performance improvements in upcoming versions.

With Nothing OS 3.5 rumored to launch alongside the next iteration of Nothing Phones in early 2024, it’s possible that these missing features might finally make their way to devices. For now, users will have to make the most of the current update while waiting for the next big leap from Nothing.
