The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new feature that allows users to add or update their email address directly through the official Aadhaar mobile app.
With this new feature, users no longer need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre just to update their email address.
Email Update Feature Available for Six Months
The email address update service became available on July 1, 2026. According to UIDAI, the service will remain available for six months and is completely free to use through the mobile app.
The feature is available for both Android and iOS users.
This new service is part of the Digital India initiative and aims to make Aadhaar-related services easier and more accessible through secure digital platforms.
Over 2.5 Lakh Email Updates in Two Days
The new feature has already received a strong response from users. More than 2.5 lakh email address updates were completed through the app within the first two days of its launch.
Adding an email address to an Aadhaar profile can also provide several benefits. Users can receive real-time email alerts whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is made.
This can help users keep track of their Aadhaar usage and identify any unauthorised authentication attempts.
Millions of Aadhaar Updates Completed Through App
UIDAI’s mobile app already offers several self-service features that allow users to manage their Aadhaar details remotely.
More than 4 million mobile number updates and around 1 million address updates have already been completed through the app. The new email update feature has also crossed 2.5 lakh updates within its first 48 hours.

To use the new email update feature, users need to download or update to the latest version of the official Aadhaar app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
UIDAI is encouraging users to check their Aadhaar profile and update their contact details during the six-month availability period. Keeping an email address linked to Aadhaar can help users receive important notifications and monitor Aadhaar authentication activity.
