Nothing has started rolling out the December 2025 Nothing OS 4.0 update for the Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro. This new update brings visual improvements, important bug fixes, and overall performance optimisations for a smoother daily experience. The update size is around 1.25GB, so users should preferably download it using Wi-Fi and ensure the phone has enough battery before installation.
Visual Enhancements and UI Improvements
One of the key highlights of this update is the new battery percentage icon improvement. After installing the update, the battery percentage can now be displayed inside the battery icon, which looks cleaner and makes it easier to check battery status quickly. Nothing has also improved the smoothness of animations, especially the volume slider animation when adjusting volume using the physical keys. Along with that, Extra Dark mode has been further optimised so that it adapts better across more scenarios.
General Improvements and Bug Fixes
The update also brings improvements to the Recorder experience. Nothing has optimised sound wave and wheel animations inside the Recorder app, making the UI feel more fluid and polished during recording sessions. These changes focus more on refinement and visual consistency, which matches Nothing OS’s clean design style.
In addition to visuals, Nothing OS 4.0 December update also adds useful improvements for everyday usage. Dual SIM users will be happy to know that setting different ringtones for both SIM cards is now supported. Nothing has also improved the vibration and haptic feedback in more scenarios, which should make taps and alerts feel more accurate. Call sound volume has also been optimised, especially for users using hearing aids like Oticon Zircon 2 miniRITE T.
Nothing has also worked on power management in this update. According to the changelog, power consumption during rear camera video recording has been optimised. The stability of the Pedometer widgets has been enhanced as well. On top of that, issues in the status bar, Quick Settings, and notification visuals have been fixed, bringing better visual consistency across the system.

Camera Fixes
Camera-related improvements are included too. The update fixes an issue where faces appeared blurred while taking close-range selfies with the front camera. It also fixes a problem where the watermark displayed incorrect focal length or location in some photos. Alongside these fixes, Nothing has improved overall camera stability for a more reliable photography and video recording experience.
Apart from the camera, the update improves the overall stability of the device. Nothing has enhanced network stability and improved overall system performance and smoothness. The update also includes the December 2025 Android security patch and updates Google Mobile Services (GMS) to the December 2025 version, which improves system security and compatibility.
