Top Changes in Nothing OS 3.0 Open Beta Update: Everything You Need to Know

Nothing OS 3.0 New Changes

The Nothing OS 3.0 Open Beta update has introduced exciting new features and improvements for several devices, including the CMF Phone 1, Nothing Phone (1), and Nothing Phone (2a). Let’s explore the key changes that enhance user experience and address previous issues.

1. N-Dot Font Back

One of the most requested features by the Nothing community, the dot matrix font style (N-Dot Font), has made a comeback. Users can enable this classic aesthetic in the “Special Features” section under Settings. Currently, this feature is exclusive to the CMF Phone 1 and Nothing Phone (1). There’s hope it will be extended to other devices, like the Nothing Phone (2a), in future updates.

2. New Always-On Display Options

The Always-On Display (AOD) feature now comes with two additional modes:

  • Tap to Show: The display remains off when idle but lights up temporarily with a single tap.
  • Always On: As the name suggests, the display stays active constantly, though this may drain more battery.

These options provide more flexibility for users who want better control over their AOD settings.

3. Home Screen Freeze Option

A Freeze Home Screen Layout feature has been introduced to prevent accidental changes to app icons and widgets. Once enabled, users cannot move or delete items on the home screen. To make changes, this setting must be disabled first.

This addition is particularly useful for those who want to lock their layout for a cleaner experience.

4. Hidden Photos and Fingerprint Security

The updated gallery now includes a hidden album section where users can store private photos. This feature supports fingerprint authentication, adding an extra layer of security for personal content. To hide a photo, users simply select the “Hide” option, and it moves to the hidden section.

5. Improved Hotspot Compatibility

The update brings a new option called Extended Compatibility under Wi-Fi hotspot settings. This feature resolves issues where laptops or certain devices couldn’t detect the hotspot. Enabling this option ensures a seamless connection across multiple devices.

6. Launcher Bug Fixes and Improvements

The update addresses several launcher-related bugs:

  • Quick Settings Access: Previously, the quick settings panel would appear on the lock screen even if the option was disabled. This has now been fixed.
  • White Fade Issue: Users who applied black or AMOLED wallpapers noticed a white fade effect at the top of the screen. This has been resolved for a better visual experience.

Final Thoughts

The Nothing OS 3.0 update brings significant improvements while addressing user feedback. From design enhancements like the dot matrix font to practical updates like improved hotspot compatibility and gallery privacy, Nothing continues to refine its operating system for a better user experience.

Nothing Community Review program for Phone 3 and Headphone 1

Nothing India has announced an exciting new opportunity for tech enthusiasts across the country. The company has launched its Community Review Program for two of its most awaited products — the Nothing Phone (3) and the Headphone (1). The Phone (3) will be Nothing’s first true flagship smartphone, while the Headphone (1) will mark the brand’s entry into over-ear headphones. With the launch just around the corner, this program gives creators a chance to experience these devices before anyone else.

Selected participants in the program will receive one of these devices on loan. They will get the chance to test the product and create in-depth reviews for the Nothing Community as well as for their own social media followers. This is a great opportunity for creators to showcase their photography, videography, or writing skills while sharing honest feedback about these new gadgets with other tech fans.

To apply for the program, you must be an Indian resident aged 18 years or older. You should be a fan of the Nothing brand and excited about reviewing new products. Participants will need to keep the product details private until launch and sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). It’s also important to follow the deadlines and embargo dates set by Nothing to ensure information about the devices is shared at the right time.

There are a few key conditions to keep in mind. The review devices will be provided on a loan basis, meaning they must be returned after the review period ends. However, you will not need to pay any shipping charges for delivery or return — Nothing will handle that. The program is open only to Indian nationals living in India, and it applies only to the Phone (3) and Headphone (1).

If you’re interested in being part of this program, you can fill out the application form now. The last date to apply is 1st July 2025 at 6:00 PM IST. Applications submitted after this deadline will not be accepted.

Nothing Headphone (1)

Nothing is getting ready to launch its first over-the-ear headphones, called Nothing Headphone (1). These new headphones will be unveiled on July 1, alongside the Nothing Phone (3).

We now have the best look yet at the Nothing Headphone (1) as someone leaked it. As expected from Nothing, the design is different from other headphones.

The standout feature is the two-part earcup design. The top part is an oval-shaped module covered in transparent plastic, sitting on a metallic plate with squared corners. This design is very different from the smooth, round look of other popular headphones like Sony’s WH-1000XM6 or Apple’s AirPods Max.

Some hands-on photos have also appeared online. The real-life images show the headphones with two buttons on the side and one button on the outer earcup. We can also see a 3.5mm cable attached, which means the headphones will support wired connections as well as wireless.

One exciting detail is that the audio of the Headphone (1) will be tuned by KEF, a well-known British company famous for its high-quality speakers and headphones.

There is no detailed information yet about the technical features, but pricing has leaked. The Nothing Headphone (1) is expected to cost $299 in the US, €299 in Europe and Rs. 19,000-Rs. 20,000. Sales are likely to begin on September 30, about two months after the official launch. Buyers will be able to choose between Black and White colors.

Akis, Co-founder of Nothing, said on X (formerly Twitter) that the Headphone (1) will launch in India at the same time as the global launch.

Nothing Phone (3) Promises Long-Term Support with 5 Android Updates, Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Announced

Nothing Phone 3 Processor

The Nothing Phone (3) is set to launch globally very soon, and the company has already started revealing key details about its new flagship. Recently, the company has confirmed that its processor will be the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The Phone (3) will bring several improvements over the Phone (2), making it Nothing’s most advanced smartphone so far.

One of the biggest highlights is the software support. The Nothing Phone (3) will come with 5 years of Major Android updates and 7 years of security patches. This makes it the first Nothing device to offer such long-term support. In comparison, the Phone (2) provided 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches.

On the hardware side, the Phone (3) will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC, which is an upgrade over the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip found in the Phone (2). The company says users can expect 88% better GPU performance, 33% better CPU performance, and a 125% boost in NPU performance compared to the Phone (2). The new chipset is also expected to offer better battery optimisation.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Akis Evangelidis, co-founder and Head of Marketing at Nothing, called the Phone (3) “our first true flagship and a major step up from Phone (2).” He also shared that the camera is getting a major upgrade. The Phone (3) will feature a Spectra 18-bit Triple ISP, which can separate and enhance different parts of an image in real time. This will improve detail, colour accuracy, and overall image quality.

The Nothing Phone (3) will be officially launched on July 1, and more details about the device are expected to be announced at that time.
