CMF Phone 1 Receives Nothing OS 2.6 Hotfix to Limit Depth Camera Access for Third-Party Apps
The CMF Phone 1 has just received a major update after the unusual discovery that the phone’s depth camera could see through some objects. This feature came to light when users began noticing that with specific third-party applications, the depth camera could even penetrate surfaces like remote controls and show, say, batteries inside.
To solve this, Nothing released a hotfix of Nothing OS 2.6 for CMF Phone 1, which would resolve the accessibility of the depth camera to third-party apps.
The 2MP camera depth sensor on the CMF Phone 1 was not meant for public access but was there to facilitate portrait mode photos, blurring the background. Modders have now found a loophole that made it possible to enable the use of this feature for other unintended purposes. Following the virality of the reports by video, the company has now decided to release a hotfix that disallows third-party apps from accessing the depth sensor.
The update is now out and can be downloaded/installed via the phone’s system settings under the section of system update. Applications that could earlier tap into the depth camera post-update will no longer be able to do so; therefore, any privacy concerns that arose because of this are now duly solved.
This move underlines how responsive the manufacturer is to user feedback and possible privacy concerns in terms of safeguarding user data and preventing any misuse of camera capabilities. Although the company encourages each user of the CMF Phone 1 to update as soon as possible—to ensure that their respective devices are safe and work as intended.

The company has launched its Community Review Program for two of its most awaited products — the Nothing Phone (3) and the Headphone (1). The Phone (3) will be Nothing’s first true flagship smartphone, while the Headphone (1) will mark the brand’s entry into over-ear headphones. With the launch just around the corner, this program gives creators a chance to experience these devices before anyone else.
Selected participants in the program will receive one of these devices on loan. Nothing is getting ready to launch its first over-the-ear headphones, called Nothing Headphone (1). These new headphones will be unveiled on July 1, alongside the Nothing Phone (3).
We now have the best look yet at the Nothing Headphone (1) as someone leaked it. As expected from Nothing, the design is different from other headphones.
The standout feature is the two-part earcup design. The top part is an oval-shaped module covered in transparent plastic, sitting on a metallic plate with squared corners. This design is very different from the smooth, round look of other popular headphones like Sony’s WH-1000XM6 or Apple’s AirPods Max.
Some hands-on photos have also appeared online. The real-life images show the headphones with two buttons on the side and one button on the outer earcup. We can also see a 3.5mm cable attached, which means the headphones will support wired connections as well as wireless.
One exciting detail is that the audio of the Headphone (1) will be tuned by KEF, a well-known British company famous for its high-quality speakers and headphones.
There is no detailed information yet about the technical features, but pricing has leaked. The Nothing Headphone (1) is expected to cost $299 in the US, €299 in Europe and Rs. 19,000-Rs. 20,000. Sales are likely to begin on September 30, about two months after the official launch. Buyers will be able to choose between Black and White colors.
