Nothing has officially denied reports claiming that it is shutting down operations in several global markets. The company says the report is inaccurate, although it has confirmed that some internal restructuring and job cuts are taking place.
Yesterday, a report claimed that Nothing was planning to exit around a dozen global markets due to declining sales. It also alleged that the Nothing Phone (4b) had sold fewer than 20,000 units so far and that the company was preparing for major layoffs.
In response, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis dismissed the claims, calling the report “fake news.” He clearly stated that Nothing is not shutting down any markets and said the reported Phone (4b) sales figures were incorrect.
According to Evangelidis, the Nothing Phone (4b) performed much better than the report suggested. He revealed that the company’s latest budget smartphone sold nearly 30,000 units on its first day of sales, which is significantly higher than the figures mentioned in the report.
However, Evangelidis confirmed that part of the report regarding layoffs was true. He explained that Nothing is currently reorganising its teams as the company prepares for its next stage of growth.
As part of this restructuring, Nothing is creating dedicated business units, including a new AI-focused business unit. The company is also combining individual country operations into larger regional hubs to improve efficiency.
Because of these organisational changes, some positions have been affected. However, Evangelidis said the number of employees impacted is much lower than what was reported. Earlier claims suggested that up to 40% of the company’s workforce could be affected, but he described those figures as “way overblown.”
He also noted that consolidating countries into regional hubs could have been misunderstood as Nothing exiting certain markets, even though the company says that is not the case.
Meanwhile, the journalist behind the original report stated that Nothing had been given an entire week to respond before publication, but the company did not provide any official comment or denial during that time.
For now, Nothing maintains that it remains committed to its global markets while restructuring its business to support future growth. The company says these internal changes are aimed at making operations more efficient rather than reducing its market presence.
